What is STGO CAT 1?
STGO stands for Special Types General Order. It is the UK legislation allowing abnormal indivisible loads and specialist heavy transport movements to operate legally outside standard construction and use limits.

STGO CAT 1 applies to loads and vehicle combinations exceeding normal 44 tonne UK transport limits while remaining within Category 1 thresholds.

Maximum operating thresholds under STGO CAT 1 include:
- Up to 46,000kg gross train weight with a minimum of 5 axles, or up to
50,000kg with a minimum of 6 axles
These movements often involve loads that cannot realistically be divided into smaller consignments due to their physical dimensions, engineering requirements, weight distribution or risk of damage. Typical examples include construction plant, industrial machinery, steel fabrications, generators, tanks, specialist containers, aviation equipment and oversized engineering assets.

The equipment allows safe loading and transportation of awkward, vulnerable and oversized cargo requiring proper axle distribution, secure restraint and controlled delivery.
